미국 역사상 26일은 '역사적인' 날이었다. 1789년 미국 초대 대통령 조지 워싱턴이 취임한 지 228년 만에 처음으로, 힐러리 클린턴이 여성 대통령 후보에 정식으로 지명된 날이기 떄문이다.
그러나 다음날 신문에 힐러리 클린턴의 사진은 없었다.

BBC는 "힐러리 클린턴 사진 대신, 미국의 많은 신문들이 남편 빌 클린턴 전 미국 대통령의 사진 또는 심지어 경쟁자였던 버니 샌더스 을 선택했다"고 지적했다.
매일 아침 50개 주에서 나온 오늘자 신문들의 1면을 모아 놓는 워싱턴의 뉴스박물관 바깥에서도 이런 경향은 목격된다. 클린턴의 역사적인 대선후보 지명 다음날 아침 신문들의 1면에 그녀의 사진이 실린 건 19개 뿐이었다. 어떤 신문은 대선후보 지명을 아예 언급하지 않았고, 어떤 신문들은 군중들의 사진을 실었으며, 한 곳은 도널드 트럼프에 대한 기사를 실었다.
빌 클린턴이 화요일 저녁 전당대회에서 연설을 한 것도 사실이고, 샌더스가 클린턴을 대선후보로 지명해줄 것을 대의원들에게 요청한 것도 사실이다. 또 이날 밤 행사 막판에야 힐러리 클린턴이 위성 연결을 통해 전당대회장 스크린에 등장했기 때문에 아마도 신문사들이 헤드라인을 바꾸기에는 너무 늦었던 것일 수도 있다. 그럼에도 몇몇 신문들은 클린턴의 과거 이미지를 활용하거나 최소한 이 자리에 있던 청중들 중 여성의 사진을 골랐다. (BBC 7월28일)
