미국 국무부는 비건 대표가 15일부터 19일까지의 한국 및 일본 방문 일정을 마친 뒤 베이징을 방문해 중국 정부 당국자들과 만나 ”북한에 대한 국제적 공조를 유지할 필요성”을 논의할 것이라고 밝혔다.
로이터는 중국과 러시아가 일부 대북제재를 해제하는 방안을 유엔안전보장이사회에 제안했다고 보도했다.

그러나 미국과 영국, 프랑스 등 나머지 안보리 상임이사국들은 북한이 핵무기와 장거리 미사일 개발을 포기한 뒤에야 제재를 해제할 수 있다는 입장이다.
