일간 월스트리트저널(WSJ)은 한진해운이 국제적인 지급 불능상황을 다루는 파산보호법 15조(챕터 15)에 따라 지난 2일(현지시간) 뉴저지 주 뉴어크 소재 파산법원에 파산보호 신청을 했다고 4일 보도했다.
이에 앞서 한진해운은 지난달 31일 서울중앙지법에 법정관리를 신청했고, 다음날 법원 결정에 따라 법정관리 절차에 들어갔다.
미국에서 파산보호 신청이 받아들여져도 한국에서의 한진해운 자산 매각 등 구조조정 작업에는 영향을 받지 않는다.
공청회는 6일 오후에 열린다.
월스트리트저널은 한진해운이 파산하게 되면 역사상 가장 큰 컨테이너 운송업체의 파산으로 기록된다고 전했다.
