죽음의 문턱에서 구조된 새끼 고양이 로지(Rosie)는 다행히 새로운 가족을 찾았다. 고양이와 토끼, 그리고 시베리안 허스키까지 여러 동물들이 있었던 것. 많은 동물친구 가운데 로지의 선택을 받은 이는 바로 시베리안 허스키 릴로(Lilo)였다. 당시 생후 3주밖에 되지 않은 로지는 릴로의 보살핌을 받았고, 약 1주일 후에는 눈을 뜨고 걸어다니기 시작했다고 한다. 이때부터 로지는 릴로를 엄마처럼 대했다. 릴로도 로지를 자신의 새끼처럼 대했다. 그 결과 고양이인 로지는 지금 자신이 개인줄 알고 있다.

동물전문매체인 ‘더 도도’에 따르면, 한 동물이 다른 종의 동물을 기르고 양육하는 일은 흔치 않다고 한다. 릴리와 로지를 키우는 주인 또한 그들이 거의 모든 생활을 함께하는 모습을 보고 놀랐을 정도. “한 번은 로지를 공원에 풀어놓아 본 적이 있어요. 그런데도 로지는 릴로옆에 붙어서 그와 떨어지지 않으려고 했죠.”

사람들의 눈에는 이들의 관계가 신기해 보이는 게 당연할 것이다. 하지만 두 동물을 키우는 주인은 인스타그램을 통해 “절대 따라하지 말라”고 강조했다. “허스키는 먹이처럼 보이는 것들을 갑자기 물어버리는 것으로 소문난 동물이에요. 모든 고양이와 허스키가 친한 친구가 될 거라고 생각하면 안됩니다.”

A little kitten update! Her name is Rosie???? She has been with us for about 5 days. She almost did not make it through the first night... Even with round the clock care. She was lethargic and limp. So we decided to go out on a limb and let her cuddle extensively with Lilo. By some miracle, she started suckling on Lilo and Lilo went full "mom mode". Even stimulating it to go to the bathroom..???? (This was very shocking to me). Since then, Rosie's been getting much better and her eyes opened! It's probably safe to say Rosie has made it through the worse of it???? This clip is of them together the second night! We finally achieved our dream of 10k! Thank you to @cats_of_instagram @huskies for the recent features! Hello to all our new followers!☺️???????? We are a family of two huskies: Lilo and Infinity, and several kitties: Misty the polydactyl rescue, and Rosie the most recent foster. Wow oh wow! We still can't believe just how viral Lilo and Rosie got!???? Thank you again for everyone's lovely wishes and comments! While we're really happy about the exposure, we'd just like to take the time and spread some breed awareness. Huskies are notorious for their intense prey drive!! So please please don't run out and get a kitten (or a husky) expecting them to be best friends.???????? It is very uncommon for them to get along (without growing up with each other), so please! Protect your pets and make smart decisions bringing new ones home. We raised our huskies with cats, but even then, Infinity struggled with her prey drive when Rosie was smaller. I'm very thankful they can get along now, but I still watch them very carefully.????????????
