비틀스 멤버 조지 해리슨이 '비틀스 열풍'이 몰아칠 당시에 사용했던 기타가 지난 15일(현지시간) 뉴욕 줄리언 경매에서 49만 달러(약 5억 3천만 원)에 낙찰됐다.
경매소 측은 이 기타가 마스터사운드 전기기타로 해리슨이 영국의 한 악기점에서 빌렸으며 1963년 여름 영국과 채널 제도에서 가진 수차례 공연 때 사용했다고 밝혔다.
낙찰자의 신원은 밝혀지지 않았다.
이틀간 열린 록 음악과 관련된 경매에서는 엘비스 프레슬리가 1975년 라스베이거스 공연 무대에서 입었던 '팽귄' 스타일 의상이 12만 2천 달러(약 1억 3천만 원)에 팔렸다.
또한 프레슬리가 1967년 프리실라 프레슬리와 결혼할 당시 결혼증명서가 4만 달러(약 4천340만 원)에 낙찰됐다.
천재 기타리스트 지미 헨드릭스의 조끼는 5만 9천 달러(약 6천400만 원)에, 마돈나가 입었던 '탱크톱' 겉옷은 2만 5천 달러(약 2천700만 원)에 각각 팔렸다.
