중국 정부가 24일 신종 코로나바이러스 확진자와 사망자가 급증했다고 밝혔다. 현재 조사 중인 의심환자도 상당수라 앞으로 더 늘어날 것으로 보인다.
로이터에 따르면, 중국 국가위생건강위원회는 전날(23일)에만 신종 코로나바이러스 확진자가 259명 더 늘어 830명으로 급증했다고 밝혔다. 사망자도 8명 증가해 25명으로 늘었다.
아울러 확진자 830명 중 117명은 심각한 상태이며 34명은 치료를 받고 퇴원한 상태라고 전했다.
국가위생건강위원회는 또한 1072명의 감염 의심 환자를 조사 중이라고 밝혀 향후 확진자가 늘어날 가능성을 시사했다.
중국 정부의 이번 발표는 세계보건기구(WHO)가 아직 국제적 비상사태에는 해당하지 않는다고 밝힌 가운데 나왔다.
게브레예수스 사무총장은 WHO 본부에서 가진 기자회견에서 ”아직 국제적인 비상사태는 아니다”면서도 ”앞으로 그렇게 될 가능성은 있다”고 말했다. 다만 그는 ”중국에서는 비상사태다”라고 덧붙였다.
중국 정부는 확산을 방지하기 위해 우한시를 비롯해 허베이성 8개 도시와 인근 황강을 봉쇄하는 등 특단의 대책을 내놓고 있다.
