게티이미지의 저널리즘 사진작가 마리오 타마는 리우 올림픽 주최측이 '브라질 시민들이 활용할 수 있게 관리하겠다'고 약속했던 올림픽 시설들이 지금 어떤 꼴이 됐는지를 카메라에 담았다. 폐허가 된 골프 코스와 수영장, 버려진 곤돌라 라인 등, 이건 거의 '워킹 데드'의 한 장면처럼 보일 지경이다.
브라질은 올림픽 이후 경제적, 정치적 위기에서 헤어나오지 못하고 있다. 많은 사람들은 올림픽을 열 돈으로 도시의 인프라를 확충하는데 사용했어야 옳았다고 비판한다.
