페루 중남부 안데스 산맥에 있는 잉카 후기의 유적지인 마추픽추에서 독일 관광객이 셀카를 찍다가 추락사했다.
1일(현지시간) 페루 관광경찰에 따르면 독일 국적의 올리버 파커(51) 씨가 출입제한 구역에 들어가서 셀카를 찍으려다가 300피트(약 91ｍ) 절벽 밑으로 떨어져 숨졌다.
목격자들은 파커 씨가 절벽 위에서 허공에 떠 있는 것처럼 보이는 사진을 찍으려고 뛰어올랐다가 중심을 잃는 바람에 절벽 아래로 떨어졌다고 전했다.
경찰은 전날 시신을 수습해 인근 경찰서에 안치했다.
세계 7대 불가사의 중 한 곳으로 해발 2천430m에 자리한 마추픽추는 잉카 제국의 절정기인 15세기에 건설되었으며 1983년 유네스코 세계유산으로 지정됐다. 연간 100만 명 이상의 관광객이 찾는 명소다.
