How To Turn Humdrum Cup Noodles Into Gourmet Snacks

Master chef Choi HyunSuk's perfect al dente cup of ramen noodles!

Thanks to tvN's "Wednesday Gourmet" we got a peek at how to turn a humdrum cup of ramen noodles into perfectly delicious al dente snack anyone would be proud to serve (but will probably gobble it all up for him/herself). If you think ramen noodles that come in styrofoam cups are tasteless and boring, watch master chef Choi work his magic.

1. First, a cup of ramen noodles and egg.

In the show, chef Choi uses Shrimp Soup brand of cup noodles.

2. Remove the uncooked noodles, then fill the styrofoam cup with water all the way up to the indented mark.

More water is used this way than if you'd left the noodles in, but chef Choi's method of cooking instant cup noodles actually in a pot means some of the water will evaporate during boil, leaving you just the right flavor for soup.

3. Pour the water and soup base into a pot and boil.

4. Wait until the soup comes to a boil then drop the noodles inside.

During the noodle frying process, micro-sized cavities are created, and compared to regular ramen, these noodles in cups have bigger holes though thinner overall, enabling the noodles to cook at a lower temperature inside the cup. According to the video, cup noodles are also firmer because they have higher starch level than regular ramen noodles.

5. With a pair of chopsticks, lift and drop the various strains of noodles from the pot while cooking on hot.

It's to make the noodles even firmer and more delicious.

6. Add the egg.

When the noodles are about 60% done, add an egg to the soup mix. Make sure to stir the egg before pouring it into the pot, but once inside, do not stir or spread the egg. If you do, the egg will cause the soup to become thick. In order to achieve the soft eggy taste, let it cook in the soup naturally.

7. When the noodles are half-way transparent, remove them from the pot into a separate bowl.

The reason you do it at the half way point is that the noodles will cook during the 30 seconds it takes to transfer the content.

8. Enjoy!
