문재인 대통령이 청와대가 아닌 평택 미군기지에서 도널드 트럼프 미국 대통령을 맞이했다. 청와대는 “국빈방문 중인 트럼프 대통령에 대한 공식영접은 아니지만 문 대통령이 직접 캠프 험프리스로 초청했고, 함께 한·미 양국 군 장병을 격려하기 위해 평택을 찾았다”고 설명했다.

두 대통령은 이날 미군기지에서 두 나라 장병과 함께 점심식사를 했다. '중앙일보'에 따르면, 트럼프 대통령은 "모두들 안녕하십니까. 식사가 좋군요. 감사합니다(Hello everybody, good food. Thank you)"라고 인사했다. 또한 '연합뉴스'에 따르면, 문재인 대통령은 "오늘은 매우 역사적인 날"이라 평가하며 "한·미 대통령 역사상 처음으로 미군기지를 방문했다. 한미 장병은 어려울 때 함께 피흘린 진정한 친구이고, 한미동맹의 아주 든든한 초석이자 미래"라고 말했다.

또한 연합뉴스에 의하면 트럼프는 "문 대통령, 그의 대표단과 함께 곧 무역에 관해 예정된 훌륭한 미팅을 한다"며 "바라건대 그 회의가 잘 풀려서 우리가 미국 내에서 많은 일자리를 창출하게 되기를 바란다. 그것이 바로 내가 여기 있는 이유 중 하나"라고 말했다.

식사 이후 도널드 트럼프 대통령은 한·미 양국 군의 합동 정세브리핑을 듣고, 문 대통령은 다시 청와대로 돌아올 예정이다.
